If you need to write a huge amount of text or code, you can rely on Colon to let you work comfortably and without too many distractions. This Electron-based editor can be used for anything that involves typing, from writing a journal to coding. It can help you manage projects and preview your work, without any effort. It's an excellent replacement for any traditional text editor.

Colon is free and open source, and you can have it up and running on your computer in no time. It works on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, and it doesn't have any special requirements, regardless of your preferred platform.

The application provides you with a clean and simple user interface, on which you can start typing away without any worries. Line numbering is a feature you can expect to see, which will come in useful if you plan to write code. You will also see word suggestions as you type, so you won't have to try the same words twice. What's more, the application lets you work on several documents in parallel on the same window, on separate tabs.

The left edge of the interface presents a series of options, which allow you to bring up a projects list, a console, as well as HTML and markdown preview tools, which show up on the right side of the interface. You can find other useful options in the top menus, for jumping to a specific spot in your text or code, for enabling commends and much more.

Regardless of what you're writing, it can't get any simpler and easier when using Colon.

Pros

The application provides you with a clean and simple text editing environment. It comes with inline preview tools for HTML and markdown. It takes only a few seconds to have it up and running.

Cons

The application doesn't come with syntax highlighting.
